    In its sixteenth year, the Guanajuato International Film Festival, which took place in the cities of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, Mexico exceeded expectations and results of previous editions.

    The GIFF achieved an unpaid promotion for the state of Guanajuato and the Festival itself, equivalent to $ 1,122,250,668.00 (one thousand one hundred and twenty-two million two hundred and fifty thousand six hundred and sixty-eight pesos 00/100 MN) in national and international media.

    The Festival attracted an attendance of 121,354 (one hundred twenty-one thousand three hundred fifty-four) visitors from 30 states of the Mexican Republic and 35 countries, among them the United States, Colombia, France, Germany, England, Palestine and Korea, to name few. These visitors represented an outlay for the tourism sector estimated at $ 193,144,543.00 (one hundred ninety-three million one hundred and forty-four thousand five hundred forty-three pesos 00/100 MN).

    On the other hand, the Festival has developed their own mechanisms for promotion, based on social networks, in order to maintain in the minds of its followers the GIFF brand throughout the year. The sum of their profiles increased by 109,513 followers on Facebook, with 105,798 Hits per week, equivalent, according to the Tabulator of the Electoral Observatory, at a value of $ 55,196,340.00. it boasts 25,000 active followers on Twitter.

    Regarding the website, it achieved a 94,159 visitors presence, who reviewed 693.356 pages of www.GIFF.mx, this represented an increase of 74 % compared to the previous edition.

    Another area that allowed real-time virtual presence of 22,321 attendees from across the Republic and 19 countries was GIFF TV channelstreaming media that allows for a greater “capacity” for programs, and otherwise maintains proximity with the followers who cannot travel to Guanajuato to witness live the festival.

    The growth of GIFF in the areas of assistance, both nationally and internationally, as well as in the summons, starting from its first edition and taking into account the numbers stated in the sixteenth, mark a vast distance since its foundation to date.

    Sarah Hoch, executive director of the Festival, said through a survey conducted by the Mexican Institute of Cinematography, IMCINE, comparing the three major film festivals in Mexico: Guanajuato, Morelia and Guadalajara, concluded that in Guanajuato is perceived a greater tourism impact during the dates of the event.
